Guardians get tribute from UFL

Jeff Sofka loves the possibilities. The Ridgewood resident, once an integral part of the NFL’s throwback jersey initiative, now is lending his brand asset development skills to the new United Football League. He couldn’t be happier that the New York team will be called the Sentinels.In this post-9/11 world, it is a fitting tribute and the UFL deserves kudos for getting this right. The Sentinels won out over the Empire. "So many have stood watch, the NYPD, the FDNY," said Sofka, who runs Ridgewood-based Bendigo Co., as the inaugural season uniforms were unveiled Thursday. Disney near deal for stake in NBA China

The NBA and the Walt Disney Co. are nearing a deal that has the entertainment giant buying a minority stake in the league’s nascent NBA China entity. Sources close to the deal said that the NBA’s current plan is to sell less than a 10 percent share in NBA China to Disney. Read more
